Mock Interview

Performing well at the interview is one of the most important steps in successfully securing a job offer. While some students are comfortable in discussing and marketing themselves to potential employers, others may benefit from building confidence in their performance. Mock Interview provides you with the opportunity to practice your interview skills and to experience being an interviewer in a small group setting.

To register for a Mock Interview session you MUST complete all of the following steps:
  1. Attend our Resume Writing and Interview Preparation / Practice workshops. Click here for workshop timetable and registration.
  2. Prepare a targeted resume for a job advertisement.
  3. Register for a Mock Interview session here.
  4. Email your resume and a copy of the job ad to MockInterview@careers.unsw.edu.au at least 4 days prior to your session.
  5. Prepare your answers to the following questions:
         - What interests you about this position?
         - Describe a team project you have been involved in. What made the team work and what was your role?
         - What would you do if you have 2 competing deadlines to meet by the end of this week? What steps would you take?
  6. Attend your mock interview session dressed for a real-life interview.
You must complete ALL the steps in the preparation process, or your appointment may be cancelled and you will be banned from accessing our services for 2 weeks.

Your session will include:
  1. Video Taped Mock Interview: be prepared for the three questions listed above, there will also be additional question(s) tailored to your application.
  2. Feedback: reflecting on your performance, the Careers Consultant will help you assess your strengths and areas for development.
  3. Interviewing Others: put yourself in the shoes of a potential employer and experience what it would be like to be interviewing students for various positions

The session takes approximately 120 minutes with a maximum of 3 students attending. It is free of charge to UNSW students and UNSW alumni who are within 18 months of their graduation.
